5 Phase Exercise Continuum

A lot of people are not capable of very basic, common movement patterns... like squatting down and standing back up with your feet flat on the ground. Common dysfunctions are due to improper hip movement, shoulder mobility, back/shoulder and lumbo/pelvic/hip complex muscle contraction and control, and functional movement patterns with improper muscle recruitment patterns.

If you're not capable of moving in specific, fundamental ways, then you need to correct the issues affecting your movement patterns first. Otherwise, you'll be trying to progress beyond your capabilities.

The 5 Phase Fitness Exercise Continuum begins with: Assessment of your current state (body composition, health, physical limitations, imbalances, dysfunction, fitness level) and exercise capability/skill to determine a starting point. Whatever your starting Phase, we'll also start to correct imbalances and dysfunctions as part of every workout. You'll progress from your current stage to each successively more advanced stage as soon as you're capable, but not until then.

Body Basics and Exercise Fundamentals
You'll learn proper form and technique, and you'll feel empowered as you start to feel control over your muscles and movements. While this phase is more about feel than anything else, you'll get stronger, more coordinated, and your body composition will begin to change.

It will take about 12 sessions to learn the basics about your muscles, movement, and exercise. You'll learn how they function, and how they feel when contracting, extending, and stretching out through a full range of motion with resistance. And we'll challenge them methodically. There is instruction, practice, and assessments throughout the process.

You'll learn proper movement and muscle function, break bad habits, establish neuromuscular pathways correctly, and then build muscular strength and endurance that allows you to progress to Phase II.

Mastering Your Work Outs
You will be perfecting what you have learned and practiced in Phase I, and making things happen by feel and not by thinking. You'll be "tuning in to" and connecting with the muscles and learning how to create muscular fatigue.

You'll go from just the basics to more fully strengthening your body with additional exercises. You'll build more muscular strength and endurance, and you'll learn how to affect your muscles on a deeper metabolic level.

Transition to "Training"
This is where you go from understanding and becoming capable to putting forth directed, consistent effort in a systematic way to get the results that you want. Instead of being a student putting something into practice, you'll be an "athlete" being coached to get the most out of your current capabilities, and taking it to the next level. You'll begin putting forth significant effort with a bigger, well-defined picture in mind. And if you haven't yet... by now, you'll "get it", and you'll be capable, ready, and eager to take it up a notch.

Training with Intensity
We're not talking about just "going hard" or "all out". Doing so before you know what you're doing and how to do it can get you hurt, or just waste a lot of time and cause bad habits. We're talking about a very controlled and managed process, where you're measuring your efforts and learning how to affect your muscles and your body on the greatest level that you're capable. Training with intensity wouldn't have made sense until now, because building basic muscular strength and endurance precedes effective intense training. It's at this point where you'll be amazed at how far you've come, and be impressed by what you're truly capable of!

Advanced Training
Depending on your goals, this is where we can fine tune and perfect your training. You'll be an athlete now, and ready to vary your program to attain specific goals. And this is where coaching kicks into high gear. Things that would have made no sense to a beginner will seem "so cool" at this point. A new twist on something will provide a new feel, a more intense effect, and you'll get it immediately, because of the foundation that you've built.
